Course name and ability after training:
Start Yachting Course
A two day introduction to sailing when you will experience steering, sail and rope handling and be shown how to be safe onboard. These two days count towards your Competent Crew Certificate if you wish to do an additional three days sailing at a later date.
RYA Competent Crew Course
Aim: To introduce the complete beginner to cruising and to teach personal safety, seamanship and helmsmanship to the level required to be a useful member of the crew of a cruising yacht.
Suggested minimum pre-course experience: None
Assumed knowledge: None
Competent crew course content:
- Knowledge of sea terms and parts of a boat, her rigging and sails
- Sail handling
- Ropework
- Fire fighting and fire precautions
- Personal safety equipment
- Man overboard
- Distress signals
- Manners and customs
- Rules of the road
- Dinghies
- Meteorology
- Helmsmanship and sailing
- General crewing duties
Duration of stay: 5 days training
Ability after course: Competent and useful crew member
RYA Day Skipper Sailing Course
Aim: The Day Skipper Sailing Course is conducted to teach pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat handling up to the standard required to skipper a cruising yacht safely by day in non-tidal waters with which the student is familiar.
Suggested minimum pre-course experience: Competent Crew Course or 5 days, 100 miles, 4 night hours.
Assumed knowledge: Basic navigation and sailing ability

Ability after course: Skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day
Coastal Skipper
Aim: To teach the skills and techniques required to skipper a yacht safely on coastal and offshore passages by day and night within the Mediterranean Sea or Baltic Sea.
Suggested minimum pre-course experience: Day Skipper course or 15 days (2 days as skipper) 300 miles, 8 night hours
Assumed knowledge: Navigation to Coastal Skipper shorebased standard. Sailing to Day Skipper practical standard

Duration of stay: 5 days training
Ability after course: Skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and night
Own Boat Tuition
Cost: £250 per day
Based on supplying a trainer 09.30 hours - 16.30 hours training a maximum of 5 people. All courses are available in Power and Sail.
Day Sail
Cost: £100 per person, per day, based on a minimum of 3 sharing.
Based on supplying a skipper/trainer and yacht between the hours of 9.30 and 16.30 hours. Price does not include food, fuel or visited marina fees.
